Hybrid Dental Prosthesis in Valencia

Escrito por: Dra Lucía Asensio

A hybrid dental prosthesis in Valencia is a fixed full-arch restoration supported by implants that replaces both missing teeth and part of the lost gum volume. It is called “hybrid” because it combines a metal or high-strength internal framework with acrylic or composite teeth and gingival structure.

This type of prosthesis is often used in patients who have lost many teeth and have also lost a significant amount of supporting tissue. In these cases, a conventional crown-by-crown solution may not be the most efficient option because it would not restore lip support or the missing gingival contour properly.

At Clínica Dental Asensio, Dr. Lucía Asensio Romero designs implant-supported hybrid prostheses using digital planning, CAD/CAM technology and highly biocompatible materials. The first visit is free and includes full examination, digital X-ray and intraoral scanning.

When is a hybrid prosthesis recommended?

Hybrid prostheses are usually indicated when the patient has a full or nearly full arch to replace, especially when bone and gum loss make a more natural crown-level emergence impossible without extensive grafting. They are common in advanced edentulism and in rehabilitations performed with protocols such as All-on-4.

The goal is to restore function, smile aesthetics, lip support and comfort with a fixed solution that feels much more stable than a removable denture.

Advantages of a hybrid dental prosthesis

Advantage Clinical benefit
Fixed on implants Greater comfort and stability than removable dentures
Restores lost tissue volume Improves smile aesthetics and facial support
Efficient for full-arch cases Allows complete rehabilitation with fewer implants
Can be part of immediate loading protocols Patients may leave with fixed provisional teeth on the same day in selected cases

Hybrid prosthesis vs fixed bridge on implants

Although both are fixed solutions, they are not the same. A fixed bridge on implants aims to mimic individual teeth more closely and is often preferred when tissue loss is limited. A hybrid prosthesis is especially useful when there is greater loss of bone and gum and the restoration needs to replace both teeth and soft tissue volume.

The choice depends on anatomy, implant position, smile line, lip support needs and the patient’s maintenance capacity.

How is hygiene performed?

Even though the prosthesis is fixed, it still requires careful daily hygiene with suitable brushes, interdental aids and, in many cases, an oral irrigator. Patients must also attend regular maintenance visits so the prosthesis and implants can be checked professionally.

Frequently asked questions about hybrid dental prostheses

Is a hybrid prosthesis removable?

For the patient, it functions as a fixed prosthesis. It can only be removed by the dentist when maintenance or repair is needed.

How many implants are needed?

It depends on the jaw, bone quality and prosthetic design. Many cases are treated with 4 to 6 implants per arch.

Is a hybrid prosthesis more comfortable than a denture?

Yes. Because it is fixed to implants, stability, chewing efficiency and confidence are much better than with a removable denture.

Can I get a hybrid prosthesis if I have little bone?

In many cases yes, especially with advanced full-arch protocols and carefully planned implant placement. Each case must be assessed individually.
